From small community carnivals to weekend long festivals, triathlons and cycling events to garden festivals, Carmarthenshire is home to a varied calendar of events throughout the year which gives our county its vibrancy and appeal.

We aim to support organisers of all events through our “Event Organisers Circle” initiative. The scheme aims to encourage joint working and networking between event organisers as well as providing training and support to improve the overall events programme for the County.

The circle and its activities are free of charge to all members.

Sign up to join the network and receive regular bulletins and updates about seminars and training sessions. We hope you will find all the tools, advice and guidance you need to make your event successful.

As well as offering ideas and suggestions on how to plan and deliver your events, we may also offer financial support to suitable events.

Event Organiser Profile...

Name: David Martin-Jewell

Event Portfolio: Llanelli Half Marathon, Great Welsh Marathon (incl Half Marathon) and JCP Swansea Half Marathon.

Who’s in the organising team: Our team is made of 4 full time staff, myself (Managing Director and Race Director), Emma Martin-Jewell (Marketing Director) Tash Smith (Senior Event Coordinator) Chris Lewis (Event Support), we also have another full time staff member starting with us in January. In addition to this, we have a fantastic support crew of approx 20 that work at every race and help manage the course and race day logistics.

What inspires you to do these events: I am an experienced project manager who has a love for running and I am very fortunate to be able to combine both passions as a my career. However, these days, I get my inspiration from being a part of seeing people change their lives, health, attitudes from running and exercising. Running is such an accessible sport, literally, anyone can do it and on any budget. It just needs that little spark to ignite and perseverance to get people going. Seeing runners return and break their own goals in very inspirational.

Which parts do you enjoy most: I like the planning, building each event working with the various partners and stakeholders is key to the day. From designing the medals and tee shirt, to barrier locations, security and branding, I really do enjoy every aspect of my job.
What do you find most challenging: Managing expectations is tough, we are still a new business and trying to compete in a very competitive and congested race calendar.

How do you see your event/s in 3/ 5+ years time: I would like each of the current portfolio of events with the addition of one or two more, to become must do races on the Welsh/UK circuit.

Most memorable moment: It has to be the first JCP Swansea Half Marathon. It was the first time that we had done such an event and a first for the city. Memories and lessons learnt that day were replicated at our first Llanelli Half in March this year.

Most effective marketing tool: Social Media in all its guises. Getting people chatting about our races, interacting with them and learning from them. Social media is a key component to what we do to get messages out to all our runners and supporters alike.

How do you hope to benefit from the Event Organisers Circle: Networking with other local providers is very important to me. Learning from others experience and knowledge is a great way of improving resources, logistics, suppliers, etc.

How can people contact you: The easiest way is to call the office 01554 253116 or email on info@frontrunnerevents.co.uk
