Communities First

If you live in a Communities First area you can access extra help to find employment. Communities First Financial, Employment and Digital Skills team (FED’s) offer FREE support in all Communities First Areas. We work in areas of Ammanford, Bigyn 4, Felinfoel, Glanymor/Tyisha, Hengoed, Lliedi, Llwynhendy and Trimsaran.

We offer support to improve your basic skills in literacy and numeracy in a group setting in a friendly community run venue.

If you need help to use a computer or to get online we can help. Enhance your CV with a City & Guilds Qualification in Entry Level 3 Online Basics for IT users or start with a 4 week Basic I.T course for complete beginners. Computer courses are running throughout the area

This course is for individuals who are not currently employed and would like to improve their employability skills. The session includes identifying employers expectations, skills needed for employment and dressing to impress. The course will give you the opportunity to increase your knowledge and develop your skills for employment.

The GC@CommunitiesFirst is a FREE Work Club at accessible venues and offers a range of support. If you need to create or update a CV, apply for a job online or complete an application form the team can help. We can also provide basic IT sessions to help you use the internet and be confident using Universal Jobmatch.

Are you 16-24 years old and looking for work? The KickStart club gives young people aged 16-24 the opportunity to access all the latest Jobs Growth Wales vacancies and other job opportunities available locally, as well as information and advice on a range of careers, courses, training opportunities and apprenticeships. 

Staff are on hand to offer information and guidance on preparing for job interviews, common interview questions and job hunting advice, to filling out application forms and CV writing.

The clubs run from two different venues every week:

  • Wednesday 2pm – 4pm at The Vestry, Cowell Street, Llanelli
  • Friday 11am – 1pm at Felinfoel Community Resource Centre, Ynyswen Road, Felinfoel, Llanelli.

The Fit to Employ programme is a 10 week challenge delivered by Communities First. The programme offers young people aged 16-24 from the Carmarthenshire cluster area an opportunity to take part in activities that will raise their confidence and improve their skills and general health through a mix of physical activity and learning to increase their job prospects.

Participants have the opportunity to improve their communication and team working skills as well as gaining accredited awards and qualifications. Support and mentoring will be provided throughout with incentives on offer to encourage participation during the 10 weeks. There will also be opportunities for participants to volunteer at events and attend a work experience placement to gain essential experience and boost their existing skills.

We are an employment and training Programme that can help you get into sustainable work.  We have a team of mentors who work one-to-one with clients and offer intensive support to overcome barriers.

The Lift Programme has many opportunities waiting for you to take advantage of.  We can offer work related training, Work Experience placements with National employers, CV building, mock interviews and ongoing support to ensure you succeed.

This course is for individuals who are seeking to improve their essential skills in the home. The sessions will look at the practical and domestic skills needed to effectively run a home including cookery, basic DIY, gardening, ironing, sewing, personal care and basic financial planning. The course will give the opportunity to increase your knowledge and develop your skills to run your family home.

Need help with debt or benefits? Confidential advice and support is available by appointment at various venues throughout the Communities First Area. We can advise on payday loans, debt relief orders, payplan information and support you in managing debt effectively.

We can provide support with monthly budgeting; benefit applications, better off in work calculations and preparing for Universal Credit. Make the first step, book an appointment; we’re here to help you! Our money skills workshops are now available to cluster residents and groups covering topics such as understanding debt, budgeting shopping/energy efficiency and banking, saving and borrowing.

We provide individuals with the opportunity to access learning and gain qualifications which can improve their opportunities for employment or entering further education. All our courses are free and take place in a non-formal setting. We can also support with the cost of childcare and travel.
