Sheltered housing/50+

If you’re looking for a home where you can live amongst friends, with support at hand – but with your own front door – why not take look at our Sheltered Housing Schemes?

Sheltered Housing provides the perfect solution for people looking for a home to call their own, but with the added comfort of support and friendship close by.

Our schemes are nestled amongst communities across Carmarthenshire, so tenants can continue to enjoy full and active lives. Each has a range of options, including ground and first floor flats, with beautiful gardens and communal facilities to make you feel right at home.

With your enjoyment, security and comfort in mind, each scheme also benefits from:

  • A dedicated housing support officer
  • Connection to a 24-hour support service via Careline
  • Secure door entry system allowing you to see or speak to visitors before allowing entry
  • Guest flats for your friends and family to visit
  • Laundry facilities
  • Communal lounge with regular social events and entertainment
  • Handy Van service for your odd jobs and maintenance needs

Plus the rent includes all heating and water bills. For more information or to arrange a viewing call 01554 899259 or e-mail us.

Sheltered Housing allows you to live independently in your own flat, where you can come and go as you please, but with the added benefit of companionship and security.

There are several sheltered schemes across Carmarthenshire, each with shared facilities such as a laundry, a lounge where you can socialise with your neighbours if you wish, and relaxing garden areas. Some have guest accommodation allowing you to have friends or relatives to stay overnight.

For your peace of mind, each scheme also benefits from a secure door entry system allowing you to give safe access to your visitors. Some also benefit from CCTV coverage which can be viewed on your TV screen.

They are completely different – when you live independently within a Sheltered Housing Scheme, you live in your own self-contained flat with your own lounge, kitchen, bathroom and front door. They have one, two or sometimes three bedrooms, giving you plenty of space to call your own.

Couples can also live together. Whilst you’ll be offered plenty of support from your scheme officer, we encourage you to maintain your independence - just as you would if you lived in any other flat.

Every flat is connected to a 24-hour support service via Careline – so help will always be at hand if you need it. A Sheltered Scheme Officer also visits each scheme to offer help with things such as filling out benefits forms, or other housing issues. A visiting Handy Van service is also provided to help you with DIY odd-jobs around your home.

The companionship tenants enjoy as part of living in Sheltered Housing is usually quoted as the biggest benefit of all. Whilst you have your own home, the shared facilities allow you to socialise with friends and neighbours.

There is always a range of events to keep you entertained, from coffee mornings and lunch clubs, to bingo and social outings.

Some schemes also have regular visits from hairdressers, foot care specialists, therapists and Church ministers. Groups are run by the tenants, for tenants. If you want to be involved in these it is encouraged, but if you prefer not to, there’s no pressure.

Of course – we’ll be happy to show you and your family around any of our schemes, and let you see any vacant flats. During your visit you’ll usually meet tenants who will also be pleased to show you around and answer any of your questions.

Just contact us - we’ll support you through the application process. A Sheltered Scheme Officer will also arrange to meet you and undertake an assessment.

The rental level is set annually. There may be some charges for additional services at your scheme but this will be fully explained before you decide you want to move in.

The great thing about Sheltered Housing is that your rent covers shared facilities, such as the laundry, and also includes all your heating and water bills. We will help you to claim any Housing Benefit you may be entitled to receive which may cover some of the cost.
