Home composting is one of the most environmentally-friendly and cost-effective ways of dealing with garden waste. Around one third of our waste can be easily composted at home – from garden clippings to cardboard, tea bags and paper.
If you cannot compost at home, please use your nearest recycling centre.
Garden waste collection service
If you cannot do either of the above, a new collection service will be available from the week starting April 3 2017.
You will be provided with a 240 litre wheeled bin which will be emptied fortnightly. The service will run until November 24.
If you pay in full when you apply you will receive a 15% discount so you will pay £40.80 for the season, or you can pay in instalments by Direct Debit, this will cost a total of £48.
Your garden waste bin must be placed at the same location as your rubbish/recycling. It must be put out before 6am on your collection day (and no earlier than 6pm the evening before).
Please use our online form to report a damaged or missing garden waste bin.
UPDATE: Some residents are experiencing delays to their garden waste collections. We are advising customers to please report any missed collections online and their bin will be collected within three days. We apologise for any inconvenience caused; this is a new service and we would appreciate your co-operation whilst we resolve some minor issues.
What can I put in my garden waste bin?
All garden waste must be placed loose inside the bin (please do not use any bags). Any waste placed outside of the bin will NOT be collected.
Yes put it in...
- Hedge, tree & shrub cuttings; roots, grass cuttings & rakings; leaves; plants, flowers & weeds.
No leave it out...
- Plastic bags, pots & trays; brick, rubble, soil & stone; fences, sheds & posts; food waste including peelings; tree stumps & branches over 4ins (10cm) diameter; animal bedding, litter & faeces; invasive weeds such as Japanese knotweed, giant hogweed & Himalayan balsam.
Your bin will NOT be emptied if it contains items that are not allowed. Regular contamination will be investigated and if it continues the service may cease.
Please do not overfill or compact the waste within the bin. If it is too heavy for our lorry to lift it will NOT be emptied.
