Help Me Quit  - National service available to smokers who would like help to stop smoking. The service is easy to access, just phone 0800 085 2219 to find out where your local service is based and information on how to join your local support group to help you give-up smoking.

Eating well is an important factor in maintaining good health. The following links will provide information on small changes to you and your family's diet that will help you eat a more varied and healthy diet.

If you have difficulty preparing or cooking meals and you do not have a friend, relative or neighbour available to help, here are some suggestions you may like to consider:

Private local suppliers – specialist suppliers of frozen ready meals have a wide choice of menus and will deliver direct to your home. Many supermarkets and shops stock a good selection of frozen meals, and some cafes, pubs, restaurants and care homes offer meals which they may be able to deliver to your home.

Lunch Clubs – if you would like to meet other people at a lunch club or social club we can tell you about clubs near to where you live.

Home Cooking – you may choose to employ someone such as a home care assistant, either to help you do your own cooking or to do it for you. If you are recovering from an illness, bereavement or a stay in hospital there may be a reablement service in your area which could help you regain your confidence to start cooking again.

Keeping warm is a vital part of keeping well in the winter particularly for older people, the young and those with chronic illness, as more people get ill and the number of deaths rise.

The Keep Well This Winter campaign aims to provide information and support to people aged 65 and over to enable them to keep safe and well during the winter months. The campaign runs each year from September to February and is organised by the Welsh Government and has lots of hints and tips for heating your home effectively, saving energy and staying healthy.

Healthy eating and being active are essential for physical health. In the same way it is just as vital to look after the health of our minds. Everyone has mental and emotional health and we all go through periods of ups and downs. Sometimes we find it more difficult to cope with things that at other times wouldn’t bother us. As people age, their emotional needs change. Health problems, bereavement and loss of support structure are some of the factors that can lead to low periods.

It is very important that you know where you can get support. Asking for help is important and it is best to go and speak to your GP about the problems you may be having. The following links will also be of use:

Domestic abuse happens when your partner/ex-partner or other family member hurts or threatens to hurt you.

It may include:

  • Physical abuse
  • Emotional/psychological abuse
  • Sexual abuse
  • Financial abuse
  • Harassment

You may experience one or all of these forms of abuse.

Any person can experience domestic violence regardless of race, ethnic or religious group, class, sexuality, disability or lifestyle.

If you think you are in an abusive relationship and want to stop the violence or leave, there are a number of agencies that can help you. You are not alone and you are not to blame.

If you believe that you or someone you know is suffering from domestic abuse, you can report it to the police by dialling 101 or if you would like confidential advice or support, please contact 01267 222009 or 01269 598120.
