Key Details

The site is located some 250m east of the Village of Pontyberem in the Gwendraeth Valley, adjacent to the local rugby club. The site extends to 7.60 ha / 18.8 acres and was understood to once be a former coal mine with spoil colliery tips. A former railway line runs along the southern boundary and the north of the site is bounded by the Gwendraeth Fawr River. Ground levels at the site generally fall from the north to south and the majority of the site is described as vegetated coal “tip”. There are three registered footpaths crossing the site, one to the north along the river and the other two to the south.
