  • Audience: All residents, businesses and third-sector organisations
  • Area: Carmarthenshire
  • Council department / service: All departments

Why are we consulting

In order to set a balanced budget, the Council must find and deliver £16.5 million of efficiency savings over the next three years (2020-2023). Carmarthenshire, like other councils across Wales, face increased costs and demand for the services we provide which is not matched with the same level of increased Government Funding.

In making difficult decisions about its services, the Council would like to hear your views on its proposals. In total, 14 proposals are listed for comment, and will be considered alongside other 'managerial' options such as procurement arrangements, staffing structures and internal/back office functions.

Councillors will consider the preferences expressed in the consultation when the Budget is finally approved by full County Council in March 2020.

How to get involved

During the public consultation period, the Council will be undertaking an extensive consultation exercise, inviting local residents, businesses, community or voluntary organisations to take part.

The Council will be seeking the views of a wide range of representative groups such as the 50+ Forum, voluntary and community associations, Town and Community Councils, local businesses, the Carmarthenshire Disability Coalition and many others.

You can let us know what you think by completing our online budget survey, which asks for your opinion on all 'policy' efficiency saving proposals. The survey also asks for your views on implications the proposals have on you, your family and/or your community. Furthermore, it also asks whether you would accept an increase on your council tax in order to avoid the efficiency proposals.

You can complete the survey online at your local library or local customer service centres using the free public access computers. Further information on opening times for all Customer services centres can be found on our website. Alternatively, hard copies of the survey are available on request by contacting the consultation team on 01267 224692. You can share your views as to how the Council should prioritise services or provide suggestions on making savings by emailing consultation@carmarthenshire.gov.uk. You can also tell us what you think on social media.
