Why are we consulting
This consultation seeks views on what should be Carmarthenshire County Council’s Strategic Equality Objectives to be included in its Strategic Equality Plan 2024-28.
We are working in partnership with colleagues across Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Powys on this consultation to ensure that we discuss with our communities and key stakeholders.
The Equality Act 2010 set a duty for the Public Sector known as the general duty or public sector equality duty. In summary it places a duty on public bodies to:
- Eliminate discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct that is prohibited under the Act;
- Advance equality of opportunity between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it;
- Foster good relations between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it.
How to get involved
questionnaire/survey; written or e-submissions; focus groups and discussion with local community groups / third sector.
Next Steps
We will also be engaging with Public Bodies, the Third Sector, stakeholders (including protected characteristic groups) and the public. The information and evidence you provide will help us develop a refreshed set of Equality Objectives and inform the actions our departments will take to deliver the objectives and better outcomes for the people of Carmarthenshire. It will also help to strengthen the evidence base on inequalities in the county.
The reviewed and refreshed Equality Objectives will be published by 1 April 2024.
