The Chair of Carmarthenshire County Council for 2021/2022 is Councillor Eirwyn Williams.

He was elected to the office of Chair at the Annual meeting of the Council held on 19th May 2021, and will serve until the next Annual Meeting which will be held in May 2022.
Councillor Williams represented the Pencarreg Electoral Ward from 1995 to 1999, then the Cynwyl Gaeo Ward from 1999 to date.

Eirwyn hails from Cwrtycadno.  He is married to Joyce, who is his Consort this year, and they have four children.  A former teacher of Welsh, Eirwyn is now retired.  His interests include travelling, Welsh poetry, allotments/smallholding; reading and collecting field names.

He is a member of the Council’s Planning Committee and also the Licensing Committee, and sits on the Governing Bodies of Llanwrda, Caeo, Llansawel and Llanycrwys Primary Schools.

The Chair is the first citizen of Carmarthenshire County Council, and is elected at the Annual Meeting. The duties include chairing full meetings of the Council and representing the Council at formal and ceremonial occasions in the County and beyond. He / she also welcomes visitors to the County and attends and supports events organised by local people and organisations.

During his / her year of office the Chair of the County Council usually raises funds for local charities. Councillor Williams will continue this excellent tradition and will be supporting the Wales Air Ambulance.

The Vice-Chair for 2021/2022 is Councillor Ken Lloyd.
