Please shop 100% Sir Gâr

At this time of year we’re usually looking forward to a range of events that support our high streets - the Llanelli Food and Drink Festival, for example, or the judging of the Great British High Street awards.

But the last few months have changed that.

As we move towards Christmas we hope that our town centres will get the boost in trade that they so desperately need.

Our small independent businesses have never been through such a tough year, and at a time when we’re starting to buy gifts for friends and family, I’m asking you to shop locally.

We’ve just launched 100% Sir Gâr, with support from town and community councils, business, and retail groups, which gives local retailers and producers a platform to highlight their products with a virtual shop window.

It shines a spotlight on a wide range of wonderful home-grown and handmade products by talented local people and offers people the opportunity to buy something truly unique whilst helping local people and businesses and keeping Carmarthenshire’s economy moving.

Visit 100% Sir Gâr at and keep an eye out for information across local social media feeds over the coming weeks.

Please support your local businesses at a time when they need you the most.

On a final note, I’d like to offer our congratulations to Jonny Clayton from Pontyberem on winning the World Cup of Darts, alongside Gerwyn Price this weekend. Jonny has worked for Carmarthenshire County Council as a plasterer for many years whilst balancing his sporting career. This is a fantastic achievement and we are very proud of him.
