Stark and sombre warning as county cases rise
It’s been a sombre week as we have had to issue a very stark warning about the rise in Covid-19 cases in Carmarthenshire.
Unfortunately we are now seeing more cases than ever, and it is a very serious concern - not only because of how the virus appears to be spreading amongst friends and families, but how this is impacting on our hospitals and care homes.
What is deeply disappointing is that our information shows many of these cases are linked to people visiting the homes of friends and family - people are putting the people they love the most at greatest risk.
The only way we can improve this situation is by listening to the advice and sticking to the rules.
Our wonderful NHS staff and our hard-working carers are being stretched to the limit and our most vulnerable residents are being put at risk.
I completely understand how frustrating this situation is - we’ve all been on this long journey together, and everyone is fed up.
But we cannot look for ways to bend the rules. Visiting a friend for a cup of tea and a chat may seem innocent enough, but these household rules are in place for a reason.
If we visit a friend’s home, it’s less likely that social distancing will be in place and it’s harder for our contact tracing teams to track people who may have come into contact with the virus.
Please, please - let’s pull together and stick to the rules.
