Contractor Update
Lloyd & Gravell Ltd started working on the construction site set up for the new school at the Ysgol y Castell site in March, 2020. The original programme for the construction of the new school and demolition of the existing buildings was split into 2 phases. Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic works were suspended on site at the end of April 2020 and remobilised in August 2020.
Following completion of the roof works, window and door installations and external cladding the scaffolding has been dismantled which will facilitate the setting out of external works and completion of the drainage system. Internally the mechanical, electrical, fire sprinkler and ventilation first fix elements have been completed. Works are currently in the process of being undertaken to install the suspended ceilings, installation of the fire doors and decoration. The highways works associated with the project will be undertaken during the School Summer Holidays.
The second phase of the works which will include the demolition of the existing building, creating of playing fields, MUGA and new car park is planned to commence in the Autumn of 2022.
The two air tests completed to date have recorded excellent results to meet the Passivhaus Certification requirements for the school. The information provided for the BREEAM Excellent rating currently stands in excess of the level required.
The project has to date received the Considerate Constructor Beyond Compliance Certification.
