The establishment of Ysgol Maes Y Gwendraeth was also part of the wider education reform in the Cwm Gwendraeth and Dinefwr area.
Ysgol Maes Y Gwendraeth category 2A 11-19 school replaced the Gwendraeth and Maes Yr Yrfa secondary schools.
Ysgol Maes Y Gwendraeth is located on the Maes Yr Yrfa site. The site was extensively extended and refurbished in accordance with the building standards advocated for 21st Century Schools. The refurbishment provided the best facilities and resources within the given budget.
