Page updated on: 03/05/2019

We run waste amnesty days at Newcastle Emlyn, Llanybydder and Llandovery throughout the year. It's free to come along, we accept most household waste such as furniture, electrical items and garden waste.

Remember to bring your proof of address such as a council tax or utility bill to show that you are a Carmarthenshire resident.

We cannot accept construction waste or hazardous materials such as paint, asbestos or gas bottles. We also cannot accept trade waste or agricultural waste at these events.

Only four car tyres per household is accepted. Please separate your waste before you come.

Amnesties are only held in areas where there are no Recycling Centres in relatively close proximity, such as in more rural areas of the County.

The items listed below will be accepted at the waste amnesty days:

  • Furniture
  • Electrical items
  • Garden waste
  • Mattresses
  • Carpets & other floor coverings
  • Curtains and blinds
  • Children’s toys
  • Tyres
  • Empty tins of paint

There are many items that will not be excepted at waste amnesty days, such as:

  • Paint full or part tins

  • Chemicals
  • Gas bottles
  • Asbestos

The above items are considered hazardous waste, which we are not licensed to carry

  • Glass, including panes of glass or furniture containing glass
  • Trade waste

Most waste is transported from the event in caged vehicles. Glass could brake in transit and fall from the vehicle, it is also dangerous for our operatives to handle.

We hold the amnesties at locations where there are glass recycling banks on or near the sites that you can dispose of your empty bottles or jars.

Our events are provided for Carmarthenshire residents only, many amnesties are in border areas so you need take a proof of address to each event, such as:

  • Driving licence
  • Your current council Tax bill
  • A utility bill, (no older than 3 months)

Yes, we now accept garden waste at all events.

Waste amnesties are for householders only. Your business rates do not include any charges for waste.

If you are carrying business waste you should have a Waste Carriers License and your waste must be disposed of using a licensed facility meeting the duty of care requirements.

Nantycaws Transfer Station, Carmarthen has facilities for household and business waste and there are also a number of licensed private sites which can be found online by searching for waste transfer stations in my area.

We cannot accept blue bags as we have a limited number of vehicles to separate different items into at these events.

There is no limit to the number of recycling / blue bags you are able to put out for collection on your domestic blue bag collection week.

Items such as:

  • Clothing and shoes,
  • Glass bottles and jars,
  • Books,
