Introducing 20mph in Llanelli North
Slower speeds benefit the community
Llanelli North has been selected as one of 8 communities in Wales to introduce a 20mph speed limit ahead of a proposed national rollout by Welsh Government.
Llanelli North covers Dafen, parts of Felinfoel and the Llanerch area.
Evidence shows that lower speeds result in fewer collisions and a reduced severity of injuries. Research shows, where 20mph speed limits are introduced, it leads to a reduction in the number of casualties.
By reducing the speed of our residential streets, we can create neighbourhoods which are shared more equally between different road users. We’ll create a safer environment, encouraging people to walk and cycle and enjoy spending time in their neighbourhoods.
Slower speeds bring health benefits and stronger neighbourhoods
20mph is a friendly limit and encourages more walking and cycling which, in turn leads to healthier lifestyles, makes streets calmer, and a more pleasant place to spend time in. When traffic is slowed to 20mph, it will be much easier to stop and talk to a neighbour, with it feeling safer in their area, benefiting people’s mental wellbeing.

Schools
By reducing the number of journeys, you make to school by car, will make the area around schools safer for all children to travel.
We are continuing to work with schools on several initiatives, to encourage more active journeys to schools, by introducing more opportunities for parents and children to walk, cycle or scoot to school. We can also help you to set up a walking bus. Take a look at our walk to school page to see how you can get involved.
We are also working with schools, GoSafe and Dyfed Powys Police, where speeding motorists are stopped and are given the option to take a fine and points or get asked a series of questions from children at the local school.
Get involved
The more awareness there is locally, the more likely it is that people will slow down and make the community’s streets safer.
By driving at 20mph, you will act as a pace car. The more people we get driving at 20mph, the greater impact, and an increase in the change of driving behaviours within the community.
Please share your support of 20mph in the area by posting a message on social media giving your reasons why you support the reduced limit. Please use #LlanelliNorth20s and mention us on Facebook / Instagram / Twitter
