Usage of drones
From beach adverts to civil engineering in town centres, we receive many aerial filming requests. All must fly legally and not impact the natural environment (it is important drones do not disturb our wildlife, livestock and great variety of birds especially during Spring nesting or mating seasons). Disturbing protected wildlife is a crime under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
Pembrey airport as well as military sites at Pembrey Sands and Pendine are in the County, and the whole of Carmarthenshire sees regular low flying from aircraft and helicopters. You should not fly near these without prior permission.
You should not fly over or near crowds of people and if you are filming or taking photographs with your drone, be mindful of privacy and data protection laws.
If you would like to use a drone on Country Council owned or managed land, fill in the application form. You must have the correct insurances and have the appropriate qualifications and licenses for the type of drone you wish to use and the way you intend to fly it (A2Cofc, GVC, Operational Authorisation etc). We will require your Flyer / Operator IDs, a risk assessment/method statement and a diagram of the area you wish to operate in.
How we can help...
We are one of the largest public sector organisations in Wales. As well as being the statutory body for highways, parking and licensing, we manage a diverse portfolio of facilities – from lighthouses to Victorian police cells, housing estates to castles.
We fully understand the pressures and requirements of each production, and are committed to the belief that the best way to enable filming is to ensure it does not place unreasonable demands on the locale in which it happens. Key to this is adequate planning, preparation and effective consultation - we need a minimum of 10 working days notice for all requests to film in Carmarthenshire.
Our services include:
- Sounding board for initial enquiries, providing information about local conditions and logistics
- Liaison with local supply chain, other public authorities, and the County Safety Advisory Group
- Assist in securing permission to film
- Traffic management and parking
- Community engagement
- Assistance in arranging accommodation and hospitality
If you've got any questions about filming in Carmarthenshire, e-mail us. If you're ready to make an application we need to know where and when you will be filming, size of the crew, information on drones / specialist equipment, any parking requirements or additional services that you may require such as hospitality, community engagement etc.
