Mobile libraries

Do you find it difficult to get to your nearest library, or want an alternative? Our new mobile service will provide digital services directly to community users with access online via the mobile library's free Wi-Fi, keeping users connected to the greater community and the wider world at large.

What is available on the Mobile Library?

Each van carries a choice of books for adults and children, in English and in Welsh, including popular fiction and non-fiction, as well as large print titles. Audio and Visual material is also available. The new mobile libraries will also provide doorstep access to iPads with photocopying and printing facilities, a range of services including universal credit, citizen’s advice and even job searching opportunities in rural areas.

What if the Mobile Library doesn't have any of the type of books I like to read?

You can request any item from any of the public libraries in Carmarthenshire for FREE either via our online catalogue or through our mobile library staff. Other items can be requested for a small charge.

For more information on locations please contact Tracey Davies by e-mailing TLDavies@carmarthenshire.gov.uk or call 01267 224830.

Housebound Services

We run a free countywide service that brings the library to your doorstep if you are incapacitated through:

  • Illness
  • Infirmity
  • Can no longer travel to your local library
  • Disability

This service is delivered every three weeks which allows for the full book loan period. During our visit we deliver and collect books (large print/ normal print) audio books.

After an initial telephone interview to determine your needs and reading tastes, you may either give the driver a list of books that you would like to read, or have the books chosen for you by our experienced and knowledgeable librarian. If you have internet access you can reserve your favourite books and have them delivered as soon as they become available.

Due to limited resources there is sometimes a waiting list, however we are working hard towards eliminating the wait. To find out if you are eligible for this service please contact Patrick Williams on 01267 224835.
