Assign your tenancy to someone else (transfer of secure contract)

In certain circumstances you have right to transfer (assign) your contract to someone else but only with our permission.

This can be to another secure contract-holder where you swap homes (previously known as a mutual exchange) or to a potential successor (only if they have the right to take over the contract if you died).

If you want to swap homes, you must find someone to swap with before asking for our permission to transfer your contract. The person you swap with must be a secure contract-holder with another “community landlord” (local authority or housing association).

If you want to transfer your contract to a potential successor, there are two types of ‘successors’, Priority and Reserve. The type of people in these categories will be family members and carers or people who are the spouse or civil partner of the contract-holder if they died (or living as such).

You must tell us if you want to transfer your contract.
