Community Renewable Energy Grant

Carmarthenshire Community Energy

Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges of our time, with far-reaching impacts on our environment, economy, and society. Improving the energy performance of these buildings can help reduce operating costs, strengthen long-term sustainability, and support wider efforts to tackle climate change across Carmarthenshire.

To support community organisations on this journey, Carmarthenshire County Council  is offering free energy audits for eligible community assets. The audits will provide organisations with a clear understanding of their current energy use, identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, and highlight practical measures that could improve efficiency and lower running costs. The support available is funded through the Local Growth Fund (LGF) for Wales and Egni Sir Gâr, a community energy society set up by Carmarthenshire County Council in association with Gen Community Ventures.

Who Can Apply?

Energy audits are available to community organisations operating assets within Carmarthenshire. Priority will be given to organisations that can demonstrate that:

  • Their building or asset is regularly used and delivers clear community benefit.
  • They are committed to improving the environmental sustainability of their operations.
  • They are willing to consider and act upon the recommendations identified through the audit.
  • Their organisation is seeking ways to reduce energy costs and improve the long-term resilience of the asset.

By participating in the programme, organisations will gain valuable insight into how their buildings operate, potential opportunities to reduce energy expenditure, and practical steps that can support a more sustainable future for their organisation and the communities they serve.

Although there is no funding available for capital projects at present, organisations that have completed an energy audit will be in a strong position to progress energy efficiency improvements and will be better prepared to take advantage of any future capital funding opportunities should they become available.
