Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives you the right to access recorded information held by public authorities such as Carmarthenshire County Council. The Act requires the Council to make a large amount of information routinely available to the public. We have therefore adopted the Information Commissioner’s model Publication Scheme.  Visit the publication scheme section of our website to find the following information:

  • Who we are and what we do
  • What we spend and how we spend it
  • What our priorities are and how we are doing
  • How we make decisions
  • Our policies and procedures
  • Lists and registers
  • Services we offer

If you find that the information you require is not already published, then you can make a request to the Council under the Act.

A request normally has to be made in writing. It should be addressed direct to the Council and must include a name and an address (postal or email) for a response. The information being sought should also be described clearly and as precisely as possible.

  • You can make a request by completing our online request form.
  • You can also email or write to us by using the contact details provided below.

Requests for environmental information can be made verbally under the Environmental Information Regulations 2004.

Once we receive a request, and if we need it, clarification to enable us to search for the information that has been requested, we are required to provide a response within 20 working days.

There may be cases where there is a valid reason why the Council cannot provide information. It might be that we simply don’t hold what you have asked for, or one of the exemptions included in the Act might apply. If this is the case, we will write to you and provide a full explanation as to why we are unable to provide the information.

When the Council releases information under the Act, in effect, it is released to the public at large. The Council has a duty to protect personal information under the General Data Protection Regulation.

Therefore, if you wish to make a request for information which is about you, then please visit our Data Protection page for more information on how to do so.

When it is necessary to provide photocopies or printed material, the Council can apply standard charges. Where necessary, the cost of postage will also be added. We will not charge for any copies which cost less than £2.00 in total. All charges are inclusive of VAT.

The cost per copy is as follows:

  • A4 black & white - 10p
  • A4 colour - 20p
  • A3 black & white - 20p
  • A3 colour - 40p
  • A2 - 50p
  • A1 - £2.00
  • A0 - £5.00
