National Empty Homes Grant Scheme
Page updated on: 30/03/2026
The Welsh Government’s National Empty Homes Grant Scheme offers financial support to help bring long‑term empty properties back into use. Grants of up to £25,000 are available to renovate eligible homes, making them safe, energy‑efficient, and ready for occupation.
To qualify, a property must have been empty for at least 12 months, be listed as a domestic dwelling for council tax purposes, and be owned (or in the process of being purchased) by the applicant at the time of applying. Successful applicants must then occupy the property as their main residence for a minimum of five years after works are completed.
Applications for the scheme will close on 30 September 2026, although Carmarthenshire County Council may close applications earlier depending on demand and available resources. All approved grant works must be fully completed by 30 September 2027.
Carmarthenshire is a participating local authority, and all applications for the grant must be made directly through the Welsh Government’s application portal, delivered on their behalf by Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council.
How to Apply
