Why are we consulting
We are holding a second round of public engagement on proposed active travel improvements in Abergwili and east Carmarthen as part of the Carmarthen Active Travel scheme.
Following the first round of engagement undertaken earlier this year, feedback from residents, commuters, local businesses, and other stakeholders has been used to help inform the development of the scheme proposals. We would now like to present the emerging proposals and gather further feedback to help shape the next stage of the project.
We would like to update the public on our progress and advise of our next steps.
- The ‘middle section’ from the junction with Cnwc y Gwili to the floodgates was largely uncontentious and has been progressed to construction.
- We have revised plans for the eastern section, from the floodgates to Tywi Valley Path and would like to share revised plans with residents, base don the feedback we received.
- The western section from the A40 Flyover to the junction with Cnwc y Gwili remains under review and we are undertaking wider discussions with key stakeholders to inform decision making.
This engagement event supports the first phase of a 10-year plan of active travel route development in Carmarthen. The focus of this phase is to improve walking, wheeling, and cycling connections in Abergwili and strengthen links between the Tywi Valley Path and Carmarthen town centre.
How to get involved
We invite you to attend an in-person engagement session, which will be held at Eglwys Saint David's Church, Abergwili, between 3:00pm and 6:00pm on Thursday 23rd July 2026. During the event, you will be able to view the latest proposals, discuss the scheme with members of the project team, and provide your feedback.
Your comments will help support the ongoing development of the scheme as it progresses through the Welsh Transport Appraisal Guidance (WelTAG) process.

Next Steps
The feedback from the engagement will be utilised to further inform and finalise the proposed design as part of the WelTAG process to ensure the infrastructure proposed is meaningful to the community of Abergwili in addition to the feedback provided from key stakeholders to date.
