Why we consulted
The proposal to discontinue Ysgol Gynradd Meidrim was prepared in relation to the challenging situation that the school faces, namely:
- Low pupil numbers
- High Surplus places
- Low Pupil Projections and High Projected Surplus Capacity
- School Budget Issues
- High budget share per pupil
Consultation Outcome
A statutory consultation was undertaken regarding the proposal to discontinue Ysgol Gynradd Meidrim from 31st December 2026 and transfer to pupils to Ysgol Griffith Jones, St. Clears or Ysgol Hafodwenog, Trelech. Following consideration of the consultation report on 1 June 2026, the Council’s Cabinet members agreed to progress the proposal and approve the publication of a Statutory Notice.
This report presents the feedback gathered during the objection period, held between 19 June 2026 and 17 July 2026, undertaken in response to the proposal to discontinue Ysgol Gynradd Meidrim and transfer pupils to Ysgol Griffith Jones, St. Clears or Ysgol Hafodwenog, Trelech.
The report outlines the publication of the Statutory Notice and the objection period process, summarises the objections received, and provides an analysis of the key issues and comments raised by stakeholders.
