The Chair of Carmarthenshire County Council for 2027/2027 is Councillor Giles Morgan.
He was elected to the office of Chair at the Annual meeting of the Council held on 20th May 2026, and will serve until the next Annual Meeting which will be held in May 2027.
Councillor Morgan has represented the Swiss Valley Ward since May 2004.
Councillor Morgan chairs the Council’s Corporate Performance & Resources Committee and is Vice-Chair of the Governance and Audit Committee.
He is self-employed. His interests include travelling, spending time with family and friends and pioneered the first Community Adoption of a Welsh Water reservoir - the Swiss Valley reservoir.
During their year of office the Chair of the County Council usually raises funds for local charities. Councillor Morgan will continue this excellent tradition and will be supporting Dementia UK and Bloodwise.
Giles's wife, Claire, is his Consort this year.
The Chair is the first citizen of Carmarthenshire County Council, and is elected at the Annual Meeting. The duties include chairing full meetings of the Council and representing the Council at formal and ceremonial occasions in the County and beyond. They also welcome visitors to the County and attend and support events organised by local people and organisations.
The Vice-Chair for 2026/2027 is Councillor Betsan Jones.
