Accreditation opportunities
We are a recognised centre for several accreditation providers including ASDAN, Agored Cymru, John Muir Award, British Heart Foundation and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
We can accredit projects and young people’s work and achievements in several different ways that will help to demonstrate their own individual journey and development.
We can offer:
- Personal Development Programmes
- Volunteering opportunities
- Environmental & Conservation Awards
- Some Recognised Qualifications
- First Aid & CPR training
Youth Work Training
Working in partnership with Adult Learning Wales we are able to provide Youth Work training opportunities at Level 2 & 3. These courses are the initial steps to youth work training (and sit on the coherent training route for youth work training in Wales) and provide a solid foundation of knowledge, skills and understanding to anyone working with and supporting young people in a variety of roles.
Placement opportunities & volunteering
The Youth Support Service is able to provide a limited number of placement opportunities for those undertaking related fields of study as well as generic volunteering opportunities. Please note that for either of these a DBS check will be required.
For more information in relation to any accreditation, youth work training, volunteering or placement queries, please contact our Training, Accreditation & Outdoor Learning Officer Gareth Bennett at Gbennett@sirgar.gov.uk
Young People’s Participation
Ensuring young people have a voice on issues that affect them is one of our core values and principles as a service. We include young people in our recruitment processes, in the gathering of feedback and implementation of any change as well as in our business planning.
We can offer a Junior Leadership Qualification for young people from the age of 14+ that will recognise their contribution as upcoming leaders within their communities. Young People will need to complete a volunteering placement as part of this qualification. We can also offer a recognised accreditation for those under 14 years old.
Our Lead Participation Worker can also provide advice, support and guidance on how to ensure that young people have their voices heard within consultations, on how to establish youth forums and how to engage young people within the design, development and implementation of a project.
For further information please contact Heulwen O’Callaghan at Heocallaghan@sirgar.gov.uk
Youth Participation
Youth participation is your right! It’s making sure we give children and young people the opportunity to have their voices heard and to support them to make decisions for themselves.
The Convention on the Rights of the Child says that you “have the right to say what you think should happen when adults are making decisions that affect you and to have your opinions taken into account” (Article 12 of the UNCRC – United National Convention on the Rights of the Child).
We work to ensure that all of you know what your rights are and how to be involved in the decisions that affect your lives. We will continue to make sure that you all have the chance to be actively involved. This means listening to your opinions, concerns and views, to ensure that we run and provide services that meet your needs, by improving the way we work. One of the ways we do this is by supporting the work of Carmarthenshire Youth Council.
Carmarthenshire Youth Council (CYC) is an organisation that provides an opportunity for young people from Carmarthenshire to be involved in shaping the services that impact them. The Youth Council is made up of young people aged between 11 and 21 years old who ensure that young people in Carmarthenshire have a voice and a mechanism to have their opinions heard and to highlight issues affecting them.
If you are interested in being involved in the work or in joining the Youth Council then please contact us.
