RideFree – Enhanced CBT (Compulsory Basic Training)
Page updated on: 06/08/2025
Designed to create safer, more responsible young riders.
This comprehensive RideFree training is structured into three progressive levels. Developed with the full support of the DVSA, this program encourages learner riders to take responsibility for their own learning while gaining crucial on-road experience.
Level 1 – Online E-Learning (At Home)
RideFree begins with a 2-hour interactive e-learning module, designed to be completed at home, in your own time.
This module includes:
An overview of the CBT
Insight into the Highway Code and hazard perception
Understanding how rider behaviour affects safety
Level 2 –CBT (Practical Day 1)
Following completion of Level 1, learners attend a CBT session.
This full-day practical training builds on the e-learning and includes:
Fundamental motorcycle control
Real-time safety practice
Level 3 – 4-Hour On-Road Training (Practical Day 2)
The final stage of the RideFree course is a 4-hour on-road session, with at least 3 hours riding time.
This advanced road time is invaluable. It helps learners:
Identify and respond to the top 10 causes of motorcycle crashes
Consistently apply safe riding techniques in real-world scenarios
Boost confidence and road awareness
Riders are encouraged to use their own motorcycle and must be aged 16 to 25 years old.
A certificate of completion is issued at the end of each level and must be produced to progress onto level 3. Candidates must complete Level 1 and Level 2 before signing up for Level 3. Whilst we encourage candidates to complete Level 1 before Level 2, it can be completed afterwards.
How much does the course cost?
RideFree Level 3 is available to people who live or work in Carmarthenshire and is FREE of charge.
