- Insurance Claim
A formal request to Carmarthenshire County Council or its insurers asking for compensation for loss, damage, or injury that you believe was caused by the Council’s negligence. - Claimant
The person, business, or organisation making the claim. - Negligence
When someone fails to take reasonable care, resulting in harm, damage, or injury to another person or their property. - Public Liability
Insurance that covers injury or damage to third parties or their property due to the Council’s actions or failure to act. - Loss
The harm, damage, or financial cost you are claiming for. - Evidence
Documents, photographs, witness statements, invoices, receipts or other proof that support your claim. - Settlement
The final agreed payment or resolution of a claim. - Timeframe
The expected period for your claim to be reviewed and resolved. - Fraudulent Claim
A claim made using false information or with the intent to deceive. - Policy
The formal written contract of insurance between the Council and its insurer, outlining what is covered and under what conditions. - Claims Handler
A member of the Council’s Insurance Team who manages the early stages of your claim and coordinates with you, the Loss Adjusters, and other departments. - Loss Adjuster
An independent insurance professional appointed by the Council to investigate and assess your claim. They gather facts, inspect damage, and recommend a fair outcome based on the policy. They are impartial and do not represent either side. - Repudiation
When a claim is formally rejected, usually because the Council is not found to be legally responsible. - Settlement Offer
A proposed amount of compensation offered to the claimant if liability is accepted. - Legal Representation
A solicitor or legal advisor you may appoint to help with your claim. This is optional and not required to make a claim. - BACS Payment
A bank transfer method used to pay settlements directly into your account.
