The Social Care and Health Protection Team at Carmarthenshire County Council works in partnership with Hywel Dda University Health Board to support and promote vaccination across the county. We attend local events to raise awareness of infection prevention, including the vital role of immunisation.

Why Vaccination Matters
Vaccinations save lives. Since 1974, they’ve prevented over 154 million deaths worldwide—that’s more than three million lives each year, or six lives every minute. (WHO, 2025).
Vaccines are one of the most effective ways to protect yourself, your family, and the wider community from serious illness. They help prevent the spread of infectious diseases like measles, mumps, and flu, and protect those who can’t be vaccinated, such as very young children or people with weakened immune systems.
Keeping up to date with your vaccines is vital. Delaying or missing routine vaccinations puts you and others at risk.
Debunking Myths
Vaccines Do Not Overload the Immune System: It’s perfectly safe to give children several vaccines at once. It doesn’t overwhelm their immune systems; it helps them build immunity more efficiently.
Vaccines Are Free of Harmful Ingredients: Vaccines are safe and undergo extensive testing before being introduced to the public. This includes rigorous clinical trials and ongoing monitoring once they are available. In the UK, all vaccines are closely monitored by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), ensuring they remain safe and effective. If you experience a side effect, you can report it through the Yellow Card Scheme: https://awttc.nhs.wales/medicines-optimisation-and-safety/yellow-card-centre-wales/
No, Vaccines Don’t Cause Autism: Extensive research has found no link between vaccines, including the MMR vaccine, and autism.

If you believe you or your child may have missed any vaccinations, contact your GP or healthcare provider for advice. Your GP maintains a record of all vaccinations you've received throughout your life. If you've changed GP practices, you can request your current GP to obtain your vaccination history from your previous provider.
