The LYCC was originally set up in 1990 to meet the needs of the young people in the town. Eventually a building was purchased in Market Square and the work has evolved into a "go to" place for the local community. Numerous workshops and activities are run for adults, there is an after school club on every school night, youth club meets twice a week in the evenings, we have a foodbank, a community mini-bus, rooms are hired out to various organisations and we are open from 9.00 am till 5.30 pm on weekdays as a drop-in/advice facility, aided by a "hot link" to Citizens Advice. The Centre is also the "home" of Hybu a project which is supporting and enhancing all the activities and events in the town.
The funding we received has enabled us to upgrade all our facilities which, because of the high footfall, had become much in need of improvement! It has enabled us to run more activities, to provide a more pleasant environment in which people can meet and opened up new opportunities for community members to be involved at the Centre. New furniture and equipment has added a new dimension to what we are able to offer.
The building is now definitely more inviting and has encouraged more community members to venture into the Centre and take part in new and exciting projects/workshops we are able to offer in the enhanced spaces. The local community have always highly valued the Centre and are delighted with the improvements.
