Why we consulted
The proposal to discontinue Ysgol Y Fro was prepared in response to the challenging situation the school is currently facing. The challenges included low and declining pupil numbers, a high number of surplus places, low pupil projections combined with high projected surplus capacity, ongoing school budget issues and a high budget share per pupil.
Consultation Outcome
A statutory consultation was conducted regarding the proposal to discontinue Ysgol Y Fro under section 2.1 of the School Organisation Code from the 16 January to the 2 March 2026. Following consideration and publication of the consultation report in line with Section 3 of the Code on 1 June 2026, the County Council’s Cabinet members decided to progress the proposal and approve the publication of a statutory notice under Chapter 4 of the Code.
This report presents the feedback gathered during the objection period, held from the 16 June 2026 to the 14 July 2026 and undertaken in response to proposals to discontinue Ysgol Y Fro and the transfer of pupils to Ysgol Y Dderwen.
The report sets out the publication of the Statutory Notice and objection period process, summarises the objections received and provides an analysis of the key issues and comments raised by stakeholders.
