Officers in Natural Environment and Sustainability deliver a wide range of functions, working with colleagues and external partners.
Over the last 3 months work we have carried out includes the following:
Officers met with Natural Resources Wales to discuss further restoration of Figyn Bog - to further improve its ability to store water and capture carbon and improve the habitat for biodiversity.
Officer: Isabel Macho

Project Ecologists continue to work on the Tywi Valley Path Project - Otter resting sites have been safeguarded and animals recorded on wildlife trail cameras.
Officer: Rhian Lewis

Tree Safety Officers inspecting Llanelli street trees - Whilst assessing the risk trees pose, officers also calculated the benefit street trees provide and how they can be managed for future generations.
Officers: Jason Winter, Casey Colcombe

External engagement is an important part of our work. Officers met with the RSPB to discuss working together on a potential grant funded project.
Officers: Gus Hellier, Isabel Macho
A planning application agreement in Llanelli resulted in a compensation project to create a ‘Brownfield’ habitat within the Millennium Coastal Park. Baglan Slag (formed as part of steelmaking process and sometimes used in the construction industry) was mixed with sand and spread over 1000 m2. Local coastal wildflowers were planted. This area has been reclaimed from amenity grassland and will hopefully create a species-rich ‘open mosaic habitat’.
Officers: Simeon Jones, Paul Aubrey
