Circular Economy

What is a Circular Economy?

Climate change, pollution, environmental degradation and resource depletion are all consequences of our long-term adoption of a linear economy where raw materials are extracted, consumed and disposed of.

A circular economy works to eliminate waste and keep items in use for longer.  In Carmarthenshire we are supporting a move to a circular economy by introducing and supporting projects that promote the reduction of waste generation in the first instance, through methods like reducing (consumption), re-using, repairing and remanufacturing, extending the life of products/resources reducing the need for disposal.

More information and case studies that show these principles in practise, can be found on the Ellen MacArthur Foundation  website.

Below are examples of circular economy projects in Carmarthenshire.  Many of these projects were enabled by the Sustainable Communities Fund and are based across the Ten Town areas.
