We are reviewing all Council Tax single person discounts to make sure they are correct and to stop any fraud.
ln the county, there are currently around 40,000 Council Tax payers that are receiving a 25% single person discount. We are using smart data checks to compare records and confirm that each discount is valid.
If someone is getting a discount they shouldn’t have, we will remove it and may backdate the bill to when the discount started. In some cases, we can give a fine or even take legal action against people who have claimed the discount dishonestly.
I have received a review letter about my single person discount
If you receive a letter asking about your single person discount, please tell us your current living situation so we can update our records.
The fastest and easiest way to do this is online. You will need your:
- Unique PIN number
- Council Tax account number
- Postcode
You can find these details in the letter or email we sent you.
