Carmarthenshire County Council is committed to safeguarding the well-being of children, young people, and adults at risk, within a culture that gives safeguarding the highest priority. Our staff are expected to share this commitment, in line with the principle that Safeguarding is Everyone’s Business.

All councillors, employees and volunteers who work for or with us have a responsibility for protecting children and adults at risk from abuse and neglect and working in a way that promotes and supports their best interests.

Safer Recruitment

Staff who will work with children or adults at risk will be recruited in accordance with the Council's Safer Recruitment policy and will be thoroughly vetted before appointment. Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks are mandatory.

Applicants' suitability to work with children or adults at risk will be checked through taking up references with current and previous employers as part of the vetting process, and at interview.

The Council will not employ anyone to work with children or adults at risk where there is any reasonable doubt about their suitability to do so.

The Council will ensure that the induction for new staff includes safeguarding and protection training, and that employees are carefully and regularly supervised in their work with children and adults at risk.
