Asbestos Guidance
Page updated on: 29/05/2025
Asbestos is a natural mineral made up of small fibres, which has been used in the past to make many building materials and consumer goods.
Asbestos is still commonly found in many homes but is no longer used as part of construction and manufacturing processes, and there are also strict guidelines to ensure it is managed safely.
Is there asbestos in my home?
- Asbestos is present in many homes and buildings and is completely safe if left undisturbed and in a good condition.
- Every Council owned home in Carmarthenshire has received an asbestos survey. We keep a record of any asbestos present and will make anyone carrying out work to your home aware of its location.
- Asbestos is a perfectly safe material providing it is not disturbed, either by removal or home improvements.
If you are concerned about asbestos in your home or need further information, please contact your Housing Officer.
