Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS)

Investing in your home’s future to achieve the Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS) 2023

WHQS 2023 is the standard set by Welsh Government that all Council and Housing Association owned homes in Wales must achieve. It focuses on maintaining the quality and condition of homes.

Since achieving the original WHQS in 2015, we are now striving to meet the new standard introduced by Welsh Government in 2023. This updated standard builds on our past achievements and will guide our ongoing investment to make sure that your home is comfortable, energy efficient and affordable to heat.

The standard requires all social homes in Wales to:

Be in a good state of repair
Be safe and secure
Be affordable to heat and have minimal environmental impact
Have an up-to-date kitchen and utility area
Be comfortable and promote wellbeing
Have a suitable garden/attractive outside space

Achieving WHQS 2023 together

We’re committed to delivering WHQS 2023 with a focus on what matters most to you.

In the last STAR Tenant Satisfaction Survey, you told us that repairs and maintenance are top priorities. That’s why, as we work towards achieving the WHQS 2023, we want to focus on preventing problems before they happen. By actively investing in your homes now, we aim to reduce the need for future repairs, which should over time reduce the number of repairs that you need to report.

However, WHQS 2023 is about more than just repairs. It’s about making sure your home stays safe, comfortable and energy efficient into the future.

We’re proud that so many tenants already feel satisfied with the safety and quality of their homes. Achieving WHQS 2023 will help us build on this, improving our services and providing homes that people feel safe and secure in, and are proud to live in.

Where we can, we will align our investment programmes with our planned works programmes. That way, we can help avoid any unnecessary disturbance to you.
