Standards Committee – Appointment of Independent Member

Carmarthenshire County Council is seeking to appoint a member of the public as an independent member of its Standards Committee.

The Standards Committee has general responsibility for promoting and maintaining high standards of conduct by members of the County Council and community and town councils within Carmarthenshire and for assisting those members to observe their code of conduct. The Committee comprises 3 county councillors, one community member and 5 independent members.

The term independent member does not denote membership of any political party and simply means independent of the Council. Separate Welsh Government rules restrict the ability of current and former officers or members of the Council and similar public sector bodies to fill this role. Further details are contained in the application pack, which also includes a job profile and person specification.

Additionally, the Council cannot consider applications from persons who have substantial business relationships with the Council.

The post receives an allowance £26.25 hourly, £105 half day and £210 full day (depending upon duration) plus certain expenses. All applications will be judged on merit. The Council welcomes applications from all sections of the community.

The duration of the appointment will be for up to six years.

Closing date: 4 pm. Friday 5 June 2026
