Cwmaman offers a wonderful opportunity to explore the beauty of South Wales, thanks to its prime location near bustling urban areas in Carmarthenshire, Neath Port Talbot, and Swansea.

The community has embraced a variety of public sector assets that have enriched its facilities, paving the way for exciting activity-based tourism opportunities.

With a well-defined plan in place for promoting activity-based tourism, Cwmaman is poised to enhance its share of the visitor economy and welcomes everyone to experience what it has to offer.

By collaborating with local providers, Cwmaman is ready to make the most of its proximity to the stunning Brecon Beacons National Park and being nestled in the beautiful Amman Valley, complete with an array of scenic walks and trails.

Our priorities

Our Economic Growth Priorities focus on achieving sustainable local economic growth which is shared by all whilst at the same time protecting, maintaining and celebrating our high-quality natural environment. To deliver the plan we set out the following priorities which will be delivered through specific projects. 

Cwmaman action plan

Ten Towns Project

Cwmaman successfully increased its tourist appeal through two key projects funded by the Growth team:

Enhancing the 28-bed Bunkhouse

Fully refurbished to attract tourists
Decorated to promote the area and Welsh language
Upgraded shower and toilet facilities
Upgraded kitchen
Improved disabled access
Upgraded furnishings

Bilingual narrative trails

Further investment was secured to enhance the area's tourism appeal by developing bilingual narrative trails that showcase the town's heritage, culture, and tourism offerings.

 

 

Ten Towns Revenue project 

Cwmaman Town Council has successfully led the development of the Ten Towns project in Cwmaman. Revenue funding has been secured to complement the area’s capital Ten Town project, which includes the redevelopment of the bunkhouse facility, and the creation of narrative trails aimed at boosting the area’s tourism appeal. 

The introduction of audio trails has enriched the visitor experience, offering engaging narratives and educational content that transport visitors to pivotal moments in history. 

Additionally, funding has been obtained for the development and execution of a comprehensive strategic marketing plan. This plan includes both offline and online promotion, the creation of compelling content, and local and national outreach efforts to ensure broad visibility.

Revitalising Rural Town Centre Fund

Local business owners identified the need for support in enhancing the vibrancy of their premises' exteriors. In response, a dedicated grant fund was established to support this initiative, with several businesses in Cwmaman receiving funding to improve the appearance and vibrancy of their buildings, contributing to the overall aesthetic of the town.

Additionally, Street artist Steve Jenkins, based in Carmarthenshire, painted a mural at Ravens Square that beautifully reflects the town's rich history and heritage.

 

Ten Towns Circular Economy Fund

Cwmaman has benefited from its involvement in a project commissioned by the Authority, which focused on the creation of a town-based art installation made from waste products. This initiative has not only contributed to the town's artistic landscape but also highlighted the importance of sustainability and creativity in the community.

Ten Towns Events Fund

The Cwmaman Christmas Lantern Event held during Christmas 2024 was designed to showcase the rich heritage and culture of the town. The event aimed to stimulate the local economy, improve social opportunities, attract visitors, and strengthen community cohesion. The Christmas Lantern was held at the Cwmaman Community Centre and featured large professional lanterns illuminating the car park and Glanamman Square. Community groups actively participated by creating their own lanterns through workshops prior to the event with local performers taking part.

Tackling Towns

Glanaman and Garnant (Raven) Squares were the key focus areas for the Tackling Towns projects in Cwmaman. Both squares, which serve as central gathering points for the community, have been enhanced and revitalised with the addition of new bus shelters, planting projects, and upgraded surfaces. These improvements have significantly boosted the aesthetic appeal of the areas, creating a more welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike.

 

Sustainable Communities

The Cwmaman United project at Grenig Park has successfully elevated the club to the next level of sustainability and wellbeing. The project included four key elements: the installation of LED lights to replace the existing floodlighting, the upgrading of the changing rooms with solar panels and a battery, the development of a mini pitch to support additional games and training, and the planting of one hundred trees behind the two main pitches to enhance the surrounding environment. This has allowed for the club to maintain a safe and welcoming environment to meet the growing demand for rugby participation across mini, junior, women, and senior teams in the community.
