Llanelli’s Tyisha ward is the focus of a multi-million-pound regeneration project that is set to transform the area.
Tyisha has been identified as one of the most deprived areas in the country, with both soci-economic and environmental challenges. The Transforming Tyisha project looks to address these, following consultation with residents and businesses within the ward.
Tyisha is seen as an area of strategic importance, providing a vital link between Llanelli town centre and Pentre Awel.
The ambitious masterplan to transform the area will look to build new housing and facilities which meet the needs of the community, improve the environment and tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.
The Transforming Tyisha community steering group which includes the Council and various partners including Dyfed-Powys Police and Llanelli Town Council is driving forward the project.

What does the plan involve?
The plan is to deliver new mixed-use housing developments, develop more community facilities and bring vacant business premises back into use. Action will be taken to improve the environment and to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour along with providing opportunities for education, training, and employment.
Have your say – Copperworks and Lakefield school sites
We want your views on the future of Copperworks and Lakefield schools which will help us shape future plans for both sites.

Four Tys update
Work to demolish the Four Tys housing blocks in Tyisha to make room for a modern, mixed-use housing development is well underway.
Empty spaces can already be seen where the former run-down Ty Meriel and Ty Liz buildings stood with further demolition of Ty Howard and Ty Cydwel continuing over the coming weeks.
Exciting plans for Four Tys site
The early market engagement process which asked potential partners to share their vision for the Four Tys area has now closed.
We are in the process of meeting with the housing contractors who responded to explore their vision for the area.
This process will help us to shape the future of this area of Tyisha and does not exclude any other business from taking part in the official tender process which we plan to launch later this year.

Pupils help to give Tyisha a spring clean
Pupils from Ysgol Pen Rhos and Bigyn Primary Schools have worked with the Council to give Tyisha a spring clean.
Litter picks have taken place throughout Tyisha with help from local school pupils who were shocked at the irresponsible actions of many who choose to litter within the area, particularly the amount of face masks found discarded.
Thank you to pupils from both schools who are helping to keep Carmarthenshire clean.
Anti-social behaviour
We are working hard to tackle anti-social behaviour in Tyisha.
Council cracks down on fly-tippers
A fixed penalty notice of £350 has been issued to a Llanelli resident who illegally dumped a sofa in Clos Sant Paul, Tyisha, Llanelli.
The offence took place in November and was captured on CCTV in the area.
Fly-tipping can be reported on the Council website.
Waste and recycling
We are aware that there have been issues with waste, litter and fly-tipping in recent months. Our action to date has had a positive impact in the area having seen a reduction in the amount of fly-tipped waste collected since the start of the year. We will continue to monitor, review and make changes where needed to ensure that fly-tipping and litter continues to decrease in the area, and enforcement action is taken against those that continue to offend.
Community wardens hit the streets of Tyisha and Glanymor
We have recently appointed two new community wardens to patrol the Tyisha and Glanymor areas of Llanelli.
Tyisha’s new community wardens will patrol the area to help deter crime and anti-social behaviour including vandalism and fly-tipping as well as supporting the community. Their role includes:
- Patrolling hot spot areas to deter crime and anti-social behaviour
- Tackling vandalism and fly tipping as well as issues relating to communal areas and open spaces/parks
- Supporting the introduction of a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme
- Organising the installation of crime prevention measures
- Offering targeted support to vulnerable members of the community
- Encourage wellbeing activities and community engagement with youth projects, schools and clubs including the promotion of volunteering opportunities.
Tyisha welcomes new Neighbourhood Watch schemes
Three new Neighbourhood Watch schemes have recently been introduced to areas of Tyisha with support from Carmarthenshire County Council.
The Neighbourhood Watch schemes are now looking for volunteers to help make them a success through helping to increase feelings of community safety and reducing instances of crime.
For more information on joining the Neighbourhood Watch or for advice on how to set up a watch in your area please e-mail tyisha@carmarthenshire.gov.uk.
