Green food choices

Page updated on: 11/11/2024

In Carmarthenshire, opting for more healthy, sustainable and locally sourced food choices in our diet, and reducing food waste, not only benefits our health, mindset, and the environment but also helps us save money.

Globally, food waste contributes to 8-10% of harmful carbon emissions. In Wales, our goal is to cut avoidable food waste in half by 2025. Achieving this requires collective efforts: purchasing only what we need, using leftovers, and composting or recycling waste.

Climate change-induced extreme weather events could potentially impact soil health and compromise food safety through droughts and flooding. This underscores the importance of maximising our food resources and supporting local producers whenever possible.
