Pendine Sands
Pendine Sands and its fabulous 7-mile sandy beach has for generations attracted holidaymakers with a unique selling point of being able to drive a car on the beach and being a mecca for world breaking speed attempts (cars to motorbike to sheds!)
It ideally located between our county town of Carmarthen and one of the UK’s most popular tourist resorts, Tenby.
In a resort-wide multimillion pound development, we firstly completed a traffic free 500m promenade and built the Parry Thomas commercial centre with a range of businesses ranging from kayak hire, coffee and ice cream to a hugely popular first-floor restaurant.
“Caban” beachside accommodation & Café
This exemplar development supported by Welsh Government provided a purpose-built holiday accommodation and café overlooking the iconic 7 miles of golden sands.
The two storey, 14 bedroom accommodation maximises beach and sea views and is perfect for those exploring the All Wales Coastal Park or enjoying one of the many events held on the beach such as the annual hot rods .
Facilities include café, toilets and accessible changing facilities with the bedrooms offering superb solutions for families and couples.
Museum of Land Speed
Replacing the old facility in its entirety and supported by Welsh Government, the new purpose built museum opened in 2023 offering an experience through an array of modern interactive exhibits including those in a video cave, those in the digital hub located on a mezzanine floor with its stunning panoramic views of the beach as well as physical artefacts from the past - the amazing vehicles that have made it into the record books.
This amazing stretch of sand has seen many land-speed records set and then broken. Perhaps the most famous being by Sir Malcolm Campbell in 1923 in his car “Blue Bird” and J.G. Parry Thomas in his car “Babs”. Since then, it still plays host to land speed records (Garden Sheds to Motorbikes), international events (classic cars to American Hod Rods) and is regularly used by film and TV companies (Top Gear to Idris Elba).
Individual and group bookings are welcomed. Further information is available on the Cofgar website.
Additional resort and facility enhancements
Further improvements included a large outdoor kids adventure play area, car parking, access, cycle lockers and landscaping including the formation of garden areas.
