Improve your broadband
If you are struggling with your broadband, there are a few things you can do to improve it. The first thing you need to do is to run a speed test. This will tell you what your current broadband speed is. Once you know the result of your speed test, you can compare it to what you could be getting. You can do this by visiting the Ofcom website. When the test has finished, click on the details tab to find out your current download and upload speed.
Handy tip: Remember that sometimes your speed can be affected by a number of things. Follow Ofcom's top tips and advice on how you can improve your broadband speed at home .
Find out what you could be getting...
Once you know what your current download and upload speed is, you can compare it to what you could be getting. You can do this by using the broadband availability checker on the Ofcom website.
For example, if the speed test shows you that your current download speed is 15 Mbps, but the broadband availability at your property shows you could be getting up to 80 Mpbs, this means you could be getting faster broadband if you were to upgrade with your broadband provider.

What if I can't improve my broadband?
If you have used the Ofcom broadband availability checker, and better broadband isn't available, then you can find out if your property is included in future roll-out plans. You can do this by visiting the Welsh Government website. All you need to do is enter your postcode.
I'm not included in any future roll-out plans, what next?
Alternative solutions available to you will be displayed on the Welsh Government website when checking for future roll-out plans.
At the moment, these include:
- Access Broadband Cymru scheme - a grant to fund the installation costs of an alternative broadband connection.
- If you are part of a rural community, support may be available from the UK Government to connect to gigabit capable broadband. Those with speeds of less than 30Mbps may be eligible for additional funding from the Welsh Government towards these costs.
If you would like further support on what's available to you or your community, please contact Aled Nicholas, Broadband Engagement Officer by e-mailing anicholas@carmarthenshire.gov.uk or call 07814934015.
