Why are we consulting

The 2025 Crime and Disorder consultation will assist Carmarthenshire County Council to identify priorities moving forward in relation to crime and anti-social behaviour in Tyisha, Llanelli, as well as assessing the impact of work already carried out.
The previous crime and disorder consultation took place in 2021, where the following priorities were identified:

  • Crime/anti-social behaviour
  • Waste
  • Drugs

The need for additional security measures such as CCTV, fencing and increased visibility from the Police and Carmarthenshire County Council was also identified.
Through partnership working and a multi-organisation Steering Group set up following the previous consultation, there have been a number of positive actions carried out throughout Tyisha to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour. This includes:

  • A major CCTV project is in progress, with 33 additional cameras installed in the first phase
  • New fencing, upgraded gardens, new fob entry system and updates to communal areas including new floors, letterboxes and decoration
  • Two Closure Orders (at two separate properties) to stop anti-social behaviour (assisted by the new CCTV installed)
  • Several fixed penalty notices and court prosecutions for fly-tipping
  • Litter picks with schools and community groups
  • Increased partnership working with Dyfed Powys Police through joint patrols and ‘Meet the Street’ – an opportunity for residents to speak to Carmarthenshire County Council and Dyfed Powys Police jointly
  • Out of hours patrols during evenings (funded by the Police and Crime Commissioner
  • Assisted residents to set up three Neighbourhood Watch Schemes
  • Provided Ring doorbells (funded by the Safer Communities Action Group)
  • Attended safeguarding training, with the Transforming Tyisha team now better equipped to submit referrals on behalf of residents who are vulnerable or at risk
  • Increased communication with local landlords to improve private sector housing, waste and anti-social behaviour linked to privately owned properties
