The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is an award scheme for young people aged 14-25. The Duke of Edinburgh is:
- A fun, challenging and life changing adventure.
- A great way to make new friends.
- A perfect way to learn new skills, gain new interests and try new activities.
- A chance to get fitter, help others, explore new places, have new experiences.
- It can help you become more confident, resilient and able to overcome other challenges life throws at you.
- It could even help you get a job or into college as it looks good on your CV.
What does it involve?
There are 3 levels of Award
- Bronze Award – 14+ or Year 9
- Silver Award – 15+ or Year 10
- Gold Award – 16+
There are 4 sections (5 for the Gold Award)
- Volunteering: helping others, a charity or in your community
- Physical: Doing a sport and getting fitter
- Skills: Doing a hobby or interest
- Expedition: in a group
- Expedition:
- 2 days journeying and 1 night camping
- 3 days journeying and 2 nights camping
- 4 days journeying and 3 nights camping
- Residential: 5 days and 4 nights away doing a project or activities with others
How can you take part?
Most secondary schools in Carmarthenshire offer the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme.
Youth groups, clubs and organisations like scouts, cadets, guides and sports clubs often offer the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme.
It may be possible to do Duke of Edinburgh's Award through the youth support service or an open award group if there is a group of young people interested.
