Is there an age limit?
There is no upper age limit, but you do need to be 18 or over to apply for these posts. We welcome applications from anyone who is motivated, has a kind and caring attitude and wants to help us make a difference to the lives of others.
What qualifications do I need to join?
Successful applicants will need 2 GCSEs including maths, English or Welsh (grade A-D or equivalent).
What sort of qualification will I get?
Successful applicants will begin their career with us by studying a level two health and social care (adults) or a level three health and social care (children’s and young people) qualification. They will then work towards finishing the programme with a degree in social work or a level five management qualification.
I don’t have a car, can I join the Care Academi?
Yes, we offer 10 free driving lessons to help get you on the road. However, you will need to be able to travel to various places of work within the county.
I already have a degree, am I eligible?
Yes – we accept applications from those who have already been through higher education, but your degree cannot be in a subject area that is the same as the qualifications being undertaken in the Care Academi.
Do I have to pay education fees back?
All courses and qualifications you are enrolled in as a part of the Care Academi are paid for in full by the Council. Once you have qualified in your chosen route as a social care manager or social worker, we will ask you to stay with us for a minimum of three years (36 months) after you have qualified.
What if I do not want to do all the qualifications?
Throughout the Care Academi you will be supported to hit your key milestones ensuring you can progress on to the next level qualification. If you decide at one of these key milestones that you do not wish to progress any further then we will support you to look for a full-time job.
Why do I need an All Wales Induction Framework for health and social care (AWIF)?
You need to have completed the All-Wales Induction Framework for health and social care (AWIF) as part of the registration to work as a social care worker in Wales. This is a requirement by Social Care Wales.
What if I do not pass a level?
Your progress is monitored by your mentor and the college who will support you in the best way possible to help you achieve the milestones to pass the qualifications.
