Job Opportunities on Election Day
During elections, the elections office on behalf of the Returning Officer employs many staff to work with us such as:
- Presiding Officers and Poll Clerks at polling stations. Responsible for the conduct of the ballot in each polling station. On election day polling station staff are required to work from 6am until after 10pm without leaving the polling station
- Counters to work to count votes either overnight following the election or the day after
- Postal Vote Openers, to work for two-week daily opening returned postal votes
Full training would be provided, and you will be supported by experienced staff.
Minimum Requirements
To undertake elections duties, you must
- be at least 18 years of age
- be entitled to work in the UK (in accordance with the provisions of the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006)
Those that are employed on any of the election duties must not work on behalf of a candidate or campaign on behalf of any candidate.
Rates of Pay
The rates of pay for election staff vary depending on the job role and the type of election. The amounts will be confirmed prior to an election.
