Working With Local Communities

Community engagement on the Pentre Awel project can be traced back to 2017, during the Pre-Application Consultation (PAC) planning stage, when a public exhibition in Morfa Social Club to first showcase proposals for Pentre Awel attracted 240 people.

Since then, the Authority has continued to interact with community, stakeholder and third sector groups to create an inclusive and welcoming development. For example, engaging with the Carmarthenshire Disability Coalition during the design development of Zone 1 to consider accessibility.

The construction of Zone 1 provides a more ‘hands on’ opportunity to connect with the local community through in-person events and community benefits activities run by Bouygues as principal contractor. This includes:

Meet the Contractor event at Morfa Social Club in March 2023
Quarterly Community Newsletters issued by letter drop and electronically to keep residents updated on status of the construction works and community benefit activities
Bi-monthly ‘Resident Surgeries’ held by Bouygues onsite offering an opportunity to meet the project team, view progress and ask questions
Community Ambassador Programme. Interested in discovering more about Pentre Awel, learning new skills and making a positive difference within your community? Bouygues is seeking community representatives to act as ambassadors for the project. As part of the scheme, ambassadors will regularly visit site, receive training to be able to effectively advocate for the project when out and about, and be able to engage with the project and construction teams.
