Bathing water

The Natural Resources Wales take weekly samples from the three designated bathing beaches at Pembrey and Pendine.

The results showing the water quality at each location are updated weekly, and the key below shows whether the water quality meets the required standards in the Bathing Water Directives (76/160/EEC and 2006/7/EC).

Bathing water profile

Before You Enter the Water

Water quality can change rapidly, particularly following periods of heavy rainfall. A favourable water quality result reflects conditions at the time of sampling only and should not be regarded as a guarantee that conditions remain unchanged.

Bathers should:

• Check the latest NRW bathing water profile before visiting.
• Be aware of any pollution warnings, advice against bathing or abnormal situation notifications.
• Consider recent weather conditions, particularly heavy rainfall, which can affect river and coastal water quality.
• Make their own assessment of conditions before entering the water.

Important Information

Bathing water quality and water safety are not the same thing. A designated bathing water classification relates to water quality monitoring and does not indicate that a location is free from physical hazards or supervised by lifeguards. Visitors should always follow local safety advice, observe warning signage and take responsibility for their own safety.
