Food poisoning
Page updated on: 09/11/2024
We are notified of cases of food poisoning and certain other food borne illnesses. Investigations are then carried out into individual cases and also outbreaks of food poisoning.
This is done to try to prevent the spread of illness within the community and to try and establish possible causes. We also give advice to the patient on how to prevent the spread of infection within the home.
You can find out more information about diseases and conditions on the following websites:
• Information and advice on conditions and treatments from NHS Wales
• Infectious diseases: detailed information from Gov.uk
If you consider yourself to be suffering from food poisoning, you should present yourself at your GP, where a sample will be requested of you. This will identify any food borne organism that may be present which will help focus investigations.
