Net Zero Carbon by 2030
We are committed to tackling climate change and acknowledge that we have a significant role to play in both further reducing our own greenhouse gas emissions and providing the leadership to encourage residents, businesses and other organisations to take action to cut their own carbon footprint.
In February 2019, we declared a climate emergency, and made a commitment to becoming a net zero carbon local authority by 2030. We have since been the first local authority in Wales to publish a net zero carbon action plan, which was endorsed by full Council in February 2020.
We are taking a pragmatic approach towards becoming a net carbon zero local authority by 2030, with our initial focus being on our measurable carbon footprint. This does not preclude other wider actions to address the climate emergency, which are being carried out across Council departments.
